The Tyromotion DIEGO is an innovative arm-weight relief system that reduces the weight of a patient’s arm(s) during therapy. Therapists can adjust how much weight is taken off one or both arms to maximize a patient’s available range of motion within a three-dimensional space.
Once the therapist secures the individual’s arms in the weight-support system, individuals can use their arm(s) to engage in interactive screen-assisted therapeutic games when facing the device. When facing away from the device, the DIEGO can provide natural arm support for task-oriented training, strengthening exercises, therapeutic recreation activities such as painting, and more. Ultimately, the DIEGO can promote the rehabilitation of natural motion and has been shown to improve motivation as well as performance during strength, coordination, and functional arm retraining.
The DIEGO is appropriate for most individuals who have difficulty moving one or both arms. This may include, but is not limited to, individuals with neurologic conditions such as brain injury, stroke, or spinal cord injury, or general orthopedic conditions affecting the upper extremities.
Sheltering Arms Institute offers the Tyromotion DIEGO technology at our main campus in Short Pump as well as our Hanover outpatient center.
