Welcome to Sheltering Arms Institute, a collaboration with VCU Health. Sheltering Arms Institute is the ultimate resource for patients and families in need of rehabilitative care. The foundation of academic medicine and cutting-edge research fuels exceptional clinical care delivered in a healing environment. Our goal is to personally guide you or your loved one on the journey from disability to a life beyond limits. We specialize in providing hospital and outpatient physical rehabilitation services to people who have survived stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, amputation, and other neurological and debilitating illnesses and disorders.

Sheltering Arms Institute operates the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) model systems of care in Virginia. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awards this designation to institutions that are recognized as national leaders in medical research and patient care. As stated by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research, “These institutions provide the highest level of comprehensive specialty services from the point of injury through eventual re-entry into full community life.”
