Preparing for Your Inpatient Rehabilitation Stay

During your inpatient rehabilitation stay at Sheltering Arms Institute, your care will be under the direction of one of our physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians. Your physician will communicate and collaborate with your primary care physician or surgeon as needed.

It is helpful if a responsible family member or friend can come with you upon arrival to provide information during the admission process, especially if communication is difficult for you. If this is not possible, please send a telephone number where this person can be reached.

What Should I Bring with Me for Inpatient Rehabilitation?

The list below is intended to help make your stay at our inpatient rehabilitation hospital more effective and comfortable. Please label all of your clothing with your name. Sheltering Arms Institute is not responsible for items that are lost or stolen.

Items to Bring:

  • All medical insurance cards, including Medicare and Medicaid Picture ID
  • A copy of your advance directives and/or power of attorney documents
  • Comfortable clothing
  • Shoes with a back and rubber soles such as tennis shoes
  • Eyeglasses and/or contact lenses
  • Hearing aids
  • Dentures
  • Body support braces
  • Prosthetic device(s)

Your care team at Sheltering Arms Institute will let you know of any additional items you may need to bring.

Please note: On-site laundry services are not provided.

Items Not to Bring:

  • Medications, unless otherwise specified by your care team
  • Home medical supplies/equipment
  • Valuables such as jewelry, credit cards, or cash
  • Drugs and alcohol
  • Tobacco products, including e-cigarettes and smoking/smokeless types
  • Weapons

What Does a Typical Inpatient Schedule Look Like?

Every patient’s schedule is tailored to their unique needs; however, all patients participate in physical and occupational therapy. Daily activities may vary. Below is an example of a daily schedule in inpatient rehabilitation at Sheltering Arms Institute.

Food and Nutrition Services

Delicious, chef-prepared meals customized to your nutritional needs will be delivered three times daily. We will provide support for individuals who require assistance with meals and/or swallowing as well as consider your own personal dietary needs. Our café and vending machines are located on the first floor.

Patient meal times are:

  • Breakfast: 8-9 a.m.
  • Lunch: 12-1 p.m.
  • Dinner: 5-6 p.m.
