What is the Hocoma Andago?

The Andago is a dynamic body-weight support system and fall protection device that ensures safe training for the patient and the therapist at all times.

How does the Andago work?

The Andago utilizes a harness system to secure the patient to a mobile support frame that prevents them from falling. Harnesses come in different sizes to keep users safe and as comfortable as possible. The frame includes strong hand supports on either side, similar to parallel bars, allowing the user to bear weight through their arms as needed.

Once the patient is secured in the device, a physical therapist can adjust the body weight support to optimize the patient’s ability to walk or perform tasks like sit-to-stand transfers and strength exercises.

The Andago is capable of following the patient’s movements, moving forward, backward, or turning. It can also be set to follow a straight path or operated manually by the therapist, offering versatile control during rehabilitation.

Who is an ideal candidate for the Andago, and what types of diagnoses can the device help with?

Because the Andago can be utilized in different ways, it is often appropriate for patients recovering from stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, and/or those with impaired endurance or balance due to other conditions.
