Dr. Andrew Viscusi is a fellowship-trained physiatrist specializing in brain injury medicine. He currently serves as an attending physician on the Traumatic Brain Injury Unit at Sheltering Arms Institute, where he provides comprehensive, interdisciplinary care for individuals recovering from moderate to severe brain injuries.
Dr. Viscusi completed his Brain Injury Medicine Fellowship at Carolinas Rehabilitation in Charlotte, North Carolina. Prior to this, he completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Atrium Health/Carolinas Rehabilitation, where he served in several leadership and educational roles, including curriculum development for electrodiagnostics and musculoskeletal ultrasound. He began his postgraduate training with a transitional year internship in internal medicine at Lehigh Valley Health Network.
He earned his medical degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, where he was inducted into the Hobart Amory Hare Honor Medical Society for academic excellence in internal medicine. Dr. Viscusi completed his undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science.
Throughout his medical training, Dr. Viscusi has been recognized for his dedication to education and clinical excellence, including receiving the Wake Forest University Teaching Award and Intern of the Year at Lehigh Valley Health Network. His academic work includes multiple peer-reviewed publications and national conference presentations, particularly focused on brain injury, neurologic complications of systemic illness, and pain medicine.
Dr. Viscusi is passionate about mentorship and medical education, having guided numerous medical students through research and national presentation opportunities. His commitment to patient care extends into the community through volunteer work with the Special Olympics and underserved populations.
In addition to his clinical and academic interests, Dr. Viscusi is an accomplished athlete. He competed in Division I track and cross country at UNC Charlotte and appeared on Season 6 of American Ninja Warrior. Outside of medicine, he enjoys snowboarding, hiking, carpentry, and spending time with his wife and young son.
