The Virtualis-VR is a computer-generated simulation of an environment that immerses users in life-like experiences. This technology has various applications, including gaming, education, training, entertainment, and rehabilitation.
The Virtualis™ utilizes a vast, therapeutic-focused software, a specialized display headset with audio, and body trackers to create an immersive, interactive rehabilitation experience. The different controller and limb tracker options allow individuals of varying abilities to interact with the virtual world. Each system also offers the option for MotionVR, a 360-degree dynamic force plate for strengthening, mobility, and proprioception training.
The exercises and games are customizable to match patient tolerance and goals with quantifiable results that support motivation, engagement, and treatment justification.
The Virtualis enhances therapeutic assessments and interventions through realistic, 3D simulations tailored to individual needs. It’s suitable across multiple disciplines, supporting functions such as balance and weight shifting, reaction time, coordination, spinal mobility, memory, attention, and more.
Research has shown that utilizing virtual reality technology in adjunct to usual care is beneficial for various disorders and illnesses including stroke, traumatic brain injury, chronic pain, osteoarthritis, vestibulopathy, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease; however, a detailed overview of your medical condition and medical history is necessary to ensure it will be safe, effective, and enjoyable.
Sheltering Arms Institute houses the Virtualis-VR technology at our Bon Air, Hanover, and Reynolds outpatient centers.
