Sheltering Arms Institute Water Outage Impacts

Please scroll through for important information regarding water outage impacts at Sheltering Arms Institute. We are continuing to admit and serve patients at both our inpatient hospital & outpatient centers with heightened precautions.

Friday, January 10:

All Sheltering Arms Institute locations are open regular hours and operational:

  • Main Campus – Short Pump (inpatient and outpatient services) *
  • Bon Air Outpatient Center
  • Chester Outpatient Center
  • Hanover Outpatient Center *
  • Hull Street Outpatient Center
  • Laburnum Outpatient Center *
  • Midtown Outpatient Center *
  • Reynolds Outpatient Center *

* Boil water advisory in effect

For our locations under boil water advisories:

  • We are providing bottled water for drinking (and for patients currently staying with us for inpatient rehab, for teeth brushing & face washing).
  • Tap water remains available for flushing toilets & washing hands (as well as bathing for inpatients). (For our patients with wounds, lines, and drains, team members will utilize wipes for bathing.)
  • Hand sanitizer is recommended following hand washing and team members are following this procedure as an extra precaution.
  • Our kitchen staff is utilizing boiled water to safely prepare food for patients, visitors, and team members.
  • Water fountains and ice machines are currently out of order until further notice.

We will continue to follow procedures accordingly until advisories are lifted. To reschedule or cancel an outpatient appointment, please call (804) 764-1000 ext. 2.

  • Midtown Outpatient Center

We have contacted patients with appointments at these locations to relocate to an open site nearby, shift to telehealth, or reschedule upon request.

Bottled water was distributed to these locations for drinking, flushing toilets, and hand washing to ensure the safety and comfort of team members working at those sites.

Tuesday, January 7:

For the safety of our patients & team members, all Sheltering Arms Institute outpatient locations will open late at 10 a.m. due to the winter storm. For patients with appointments scheduled before 10 a.m., we will contact you to reschedule.

The following Sheltering Arms Institute locations will open at 10 a.m. with regular hours for the remainder of the day:

  • Main Campus – Short Pump (outpatient opened late; inpatient remains operational as normal)
  • Bon Air Outpatient Center
  • Chester Outpatient Center
  • Hanover Outpatient Center
  • Hull Street Outpatient Center
  • Reynolds Outpatient Center

The following Sheltering Arms Institute locations are closed to patients due to water outages:

  • Laburnum Outpatient Center
  • Midtown Outpatient Center
