Kinesio Tape: The Latest Craze for Athletes

It is kinesio tape and it actually serves all three of these functions. Kinesio tape was invented by Japanese chiropractor Dr. Kenzo Kase in the 1970s. Improvements on the technology since then have helped to popularize it. The kinesio taping method uses the knowledge of kinesiology, or the science of human movement, and works by gently lifting a layer of skin and muscle to allow better circulation and blood flow.

The rehabilitative taping technique is designed to aid in the healing process and to offer support, without restriction to muscles and joints. It is helpful in alleviating inflammation and avoiding injury. It can also facilitate the body’s natural healing process and help reduce the size and appearance of scars. The flexible, easy-to-apply and hypoallergenic adhesive tape is not just for athletes. Since the tape is nonrestrictive, it moves with the body and supports muscle movement, which can be helpful for individuals in a variety of situations.

There has been some debate on the effectiveness of kinesio taping. Many athletes believe in its medical benefits, while scientists still speculate this could be a result of the placebo effect.
